Nov. 10 — Tails on the trails10:00 am – 11:30 am
“Tails on Trails” will provide the opportunity to meet other metro Phoenix dog hikers and learn safe hiking practices as well as dog trail etiquette. This fun, 1-mile hike along the level Merkle Trail in East Mesa is great for beginner hiker dogs. Please bring a short non-extendable leash, a small cleanup bag, and water for you and your dog. One dog per hiker, please. Location: Area 6

Now, here is something cool and educational you can do in downtown Phoenix on your lunch hour — learn how to read your dog’s body language.
Presented by Sam Kabbel, president and owner of Pet Behavior Solutions, co-creator of Edu-Care for Dogs. Since 1996 Sam has been working with pet owners, animal welfare organizations, rescues and animal control agencies. She is the creator of the Core Behavior Assessment, the behavior evaluation program used by many animal control agencies and shelters in Arizona.

Would you like to enjoy more of the outdoors with your dog? Have you had problems with your dog or others on the trail? Are you worried that you are hurting your dog if you hike with him? This class will discuss these questions and more. Class meets in picnic table area behind the North Mountain Visitor Center, 12950 N. 7th Street, just south of Thunderbird Road. Pre-registration is required.
We will talk about:
- Conditioning your dog and yourself for the trail
- Proper etiquette on the trail with your dog and you!
- Emergency first aid and how to handle an emergency
- hiking with a backpack on your dog
- proper care for your dog’s paws
- laws, rules and regulations of the preserve
- get to know your Ranger
- proper equipment for hiking with your dog
- The important positions (in relation to the owner) your dog should learn to walk in
- Your responsibilities to your dog and other hikers
- How to handle wildlife encounters
- How to handle horseback riders
- How to handle mountain bike riders
- Any questions the group may have

Join the City of Chandler for the fifth annual Woofstock festival, featuring the Great Chandler Dog Walk and more! It’s a great event for the entire family – adults, kids … and dogs! Bring your leashed, well-mannered dog out to enjoy a day of fun with other dog lovers and their K-9 friends.
Bring the entire family out for a day of tail waggin’ activities, including: Great Chandler Dog Walk, Concert for Critters, Pet Contests, Raffle Prizes, Interactive Demonstrations, Dog Massages, Pet Psychic, Mini Bark Park, and other pet-friendly vendors.

Nov. 16 — Paws w/Santa10:00 am – 1:00 pm
Perch your pet on Santa’s lap for a professional holiday photo with Mr. Claus during Paws With Santa, a public event benefiting Lost Our Home Pet Foundation and Poverty’s Pets. A photographer will snap each pup’s photo and provide a printed copy during the event. Owners and their four-legged friends can also mix and mingle over “yappy” hour food and drink specials, and enjoy complimentary pet goody bags by Noble Beast.
A $10 cash donation is suggested, with 100 percent of all donations benefitting both Lost Our Home Pet Foundation’s mission to keep pets in loving homes when their families face major life challenges, and Poverty’s Pets’ mission to rescue abandoned, neglected, and abused companion animals in low-income and underserved communities.

Dec. 7 — Dog Walk! Estrella8:00 am – 9:00 am
Come on out and hike with your dog in Estrella west of Phoenix. Turn your dog into an official Bark Ranger by taking them for a hike with the Park Ranger! We will walk the Coldwater trail, a wide trail that there will be plenty of room for your best friend to explore safely. Learn some tips from Ranger Amy for safe hiking with your dog. Dogs must be on a leash. Meet at the Coldwater Trailhead.

Don’t have a dog? No problem! Maricopa County’s Animal Care & Control and Parks and Recreation Departments have united to bring you this program. You can “test drive” potential canine hiking partners to see how they behave on leash and get along with other dogs, while learning about trail etiquette and safety. Owned, friendly, leashed dogs that are at least six months old and current on their vaccinations are welcome to join this one-mile trek on our scenic, groomed, Merkle Trail. Please bring water, closed-toe shoes, and an open heart for a possible new best friend, or two. This program will be held on the first Saturday of each month, from November through April. Dec. 14 — 12Ks of Christmas8:00 am – 12:00 pm
Bring the entire family, including your friendly, well-behaved dog and come out for a fun, holiday-themed day in Gilbert! This increasingly popular metro Phoenix event focuses on pets, health, fitness and the joy of Christmas.
You can run with your dog and along with a 12k and 6k run/walk, there will also be a 1.2k Santa Sled run/walk, a fun activity for families and kids. Wear Santa Hats, dress up the kids as Elves, put costumes on your pets, and decorate your bikes, wagons and strollers.
