Dec. 14 — North Mountain Dog Training9:00 am – 10:00 am
Would you like to enjoy more of the outdoors with your dog? Have you had problems with your dog or others on the trail? Are you worried that you are hurting your dog if you hike with him? This class will discuss these questions and more. Class meets in picnic table area behind the North Mountain Visitor Center, 12950 N. 7th Street, just south of Thunderbird Road. Pre-registration is required.
We will talk about:
- Conditioning your dog and yourself for the trail
- Proper etiquette on the trail with your dog and you!
- Emergency first aid and how to handle an emergency
- hiking with a backpack on your dog
- proper care for your dog’s paws
- laws, rules and regulations of the preserve
- get to know your Ranger
- proper equipment for hiking with your dog
- The important positions (in relation to the owner) your dog should learn to walk in
- Your responsibilities to your dog and other hikers
- How to handle wildlife encounters
- How to handle horseback riders
- How to handle mountain bike riders
- Any questions the group may have

Come on out and hike with your dog in Usery Park, west of Mesa and Phoenix.
Fit dogs are happier, healthier, and display fewer behavioral problems. “Tails on Trails” will provide the opportunity to meet other dog hikers and learn safe hiking practices as well as dog trail etiquette. This fun, 1-mile hike along the level Merkle Trail is great for beginner hiker dogs. Please bring a short non-extendable leash, a small cleanup bag, and water for you and your dog. One dog per hiker, please. Location: Area 6.

Jan. 11 — PACC 911 Adopt-a-thon10:00 am – 3:00 pm
PACC911 conducts upwards of a dozen outdoor adoption events throughout metro Phoenix each year.
Depending on the location and size of the venue, there can be hundreds of healthy and adoptable dogs, cats, critters, and horses from up to fifty rescue group partners at one time, all in a fun and stress-free setting.
All pets in attendance are spayed, neutered and vaccinated. Our rescue partners know their pets’ personalities and act as a matchmaker to help you make the best choice for your circumstances.

Paws For A Wish, the only Dog Sporting Event of it’s kind returns to Phoenix January 17-19, 2014 hosted by The National Canine Cancer Foundation. The ONLY event to showcase Agility, Lure Coursing, Herding Instinct Testing, AZ Dock Dogs and MORE with 100% of Net Proceeds divided between the National Canine Cancer Foundation and Make-A-Wish AZ.
Word at the dogpark is your dog wants to have some FUN – bring them out try the National Canine Cancer Foundation “Lure for a Cure” course presented by Blue Buffalo. Think they will have the fastest time of the weekend? Does your pup have that herding instinct, then let’s see how they do with live sheep. Take home a furry bundle of joy from our new PACC911 Rescue Zone featuring over 30 rescues or see if your dog jumps for height or length with AZ Dock Dogs.

Jan. 25 — Spay Pride Parade7:00 am – 11:00 am
Come solo or bring your best friend to participate by walking or running in the First Annual Spay Pride Parade 5K Run/Walk in Tempe. Arizona’s Panacea Animal Wellness Sanctuary will be hosting the Spay Pride Parade on Jan. 25 at the Kiwanis Park in Tempe, AZ.
Walk or run in this chip-timed 5K to show the world that you are committed to your health and your best friend’s health

Jan. 25 — Dogs’ Day in the Garden8:00 am – 12:00 pm
Have you seen the Dale Chihuly exhibit at Phoenix’s Desert Botanical Garden?
Now, you and the dog can see it.
This event allows you to bring the whole family, dogs included, to the Garden. Spend time in the doghouse with vendors sampling the best dog food and treats. Sit and listen to special presentations ranging from making treats to keeping dogs safe in the desert. Go for a walk on Garden trails and heel for family photos, pet-friendly landscaping tips, and crafts for both children and dogs.
Fine Print
- All dogs must be on a leash and remain on marked trails at all times.
- All dogs must be up-to-date on all vaccinations and registrations.
- Handlers are required to pick up after their dogs and properly dispose of their waste.
- Desert Botanical Garden reserves the right to refuse entry to or remove any dog thought to be dangerous to other dogs or visitors.
