Join REI staff to learn about the basics of hiking with dogs. This class will help you plan a successful hike for you and your canine. We’ll review where to go, what to bring , and what you may encounter on the trail. Due to classroom constraints, please do not bring not bring non-service animals.

March 4 — Dog Days of Buckeye — Buckeye9:00 am – 1:00 pm
This West Valley event features the 8th Annual Chihuahua and Wiener Races, a canine fashion show, a Pooch Pie Eating Contest, Buckeye Police K-9 demonstrations, lure coursing, dog adoptions from BARK – Buckeye Animal Rescue Kennel and much, much more.
To participate in the Chihuahua & Wiener races, your dog must meet the minimum requirements of weighing 10 pounds or less, no taller than 9 inches and have a clean bill of health. The race is limited to 32 participants, so sign-up today!

March 18 — Kiss Me I’m Irish Run — Glendale7:00 am – 12:00 pm
Bring the little leprechauns and enjoy a 1K run/walk/stroll, or a 4K or an 8K with your dogs.
All participants in the Irish K will receive a Finishers Medal thanks to our sponsor the Glendale Visitors and Convention Bureau. If you would like to purchase a finishers medal for your pet, you can do this on-line or at the event (subject to availability).
The timed course goes southeast out of Westgate and circles around the Arizona Cardinal’s stadium, returning on the west side.
After the race, there will be music until 11 am and plenty of food and beverage, including “Bundtinis” compliments of Nothing Bundt Cakes. The party continues at Westgate with an after-party at McFadden’s Restaurant & Saloon with a free green beer (or non-alcoholic beverage) for all.

Do you want a treat? Reward your dog (and yourself) at the Phoenix Children Hospital Foundation’s 10th Annual Dine With Your Dog event. Brunch alongside your pup with a dog-friendly gourmet meal and ice cream dessert on Sunday, March 19 from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Capture Fido’s good side at the photo booth, or just take a stroll in front of the “pup-arazzi” for the full star treatment. PetSmart trainers will be on hand to teach your old dog new tricks while live music entertains two and four-legged attendees. Explore the pet play areas, chat up fellow dog owners and bid at the silent auction. All proceeds benefit PetSmart Charities’ Paws Can Heal Animal-Assisted Therapy program, which provides therapy dogs to Phoenix Children’s Hospital to help motivate, soothe and lift the spirits of patients.

Dog tickets are available at the Ticket Office windows only. 100% of dog admission supports the Arizona Humane Society. AHS will be onsite with information on their programs and services, merchandise and even a few adorable, adoptable dogs!
